Power of LED Screen Panels to Attract Attention

As technology continues to advance, it opens up exciting possibilities like Unilumin’s 500-ton LED sphere for Boulevard World in Riyadh. However, the true marvel of LED screen panels lies in their versatility and visual enjoyment. LED technology brings vibrant colors, captivating images and stunning visual effects to a wide range of government and commercial facilities worldwide. From airports to entertainment venues to retail establishments, these panels serve as powerful information, marketing, and entertainment tools, capturing and holding people’s attention wherever they are placed.

What is an LED Display Panel?

More than just a screen, a commercial LED panel is a gateway to immersive experiences. The single high-resolution, large-format screen, powered by LED (Light-Emitting Diode) technology, is a standalone unit that can be used in various settings, indoors and outdoors. A seamless display brings to life images, videos, multimedia content and dazzling pre-programmed light shows, captivating the imagination and creating immersive environments that showcase events or engage audiences.

LED screen panels integrate numerous sophisticated technologies, not just LED lamp beads or LED luminous spots. Depending on the panel selected, they may include a power distribution box, amplifiers, TV controllers, video processors, audio matrixes, software controller, naked-eye 3D technology for immersive screens, cableless connections, double-sided displays and connectors.

The printed circuit board could be called the “brain” of the unit because it plays a crucial role in the functionality of the LED display panel. It connects the various parts of the panel and supports all the electronic components, power management circuits, communication interface, signal processing and more.

There is also an LED video wall, a large screen made up of connected display panels. The video wall broadcasts live events, like a music concert, or changes static images. The outdoor billboards that are becoming so common show static images that change, usually revealing different advertisements.

These high-tech units become more sophisticated yearly as new technologies and components are developed. LED video walls are seen outdoors at a sports arena or as billboards and indoors in corporate lobbies and control rooms.

What is a Modular LED Display?

A modular LED display is an independent LED display that can be spliced with other modular displays to create a larger or differently arranged LED display. A connector serves as the interface between the modules. Because they can be assembled in various configurations, modular units enable high creativity and adaptability. Modular units can also be wirelessly connected, extending each screen's life span.

Why Do We Need Modular LED Display Panels?

Getting people’s attention today is easiest when using state-of-the-art technology because that is what they expect, especially the tech-savvy. They also expect excellent and reliable visual effects.

For signage, this means displaying high-impact brilliant colors, changing images and interesting themes. Commercial LED panels are marketing tools and revenue generators regardless of the type of commercial space involved. In fact, in many commercial venues, the more prominent and more innovative the display, the better. Meeting these market needs is possible with modular panels that enable signage creation for a seamless viewing experience.

The LED modular display panels are practical and increase efficiency in areas like control rooms where many people need to look at the same information at any time. For example, government control rooms, airports displaying flight information or large commercial facilities with central maintenance monitoring utilize commercial LED display panels.

Modular LED screen panels are also needed because they can be configured in any desired shape and size, designed and assembled to fit the desired space and deliver consistent performance. Each module is self-contained, so electrical consumption is more efficient and produces less heat. Less heat means less maintenance is required. Self-containment prevents damage to unit components due to exposure to environmental factors like dust and humidity. However, the modular design means that should a display unit develop a problem, the issue is contained in that unit.

Common Commercial Applications of LED Display Panels

LED screen panels are used indoors, outdoors and semi-outdoors. They are so popular that they are found in most venues today. Following are some examples.

  • Control rooms - government and large commercial facilities
  • Retail establishments – store front promotions, sides of buildings, etc.
  • Transportation facilities – airports, bus stations. rail stations
  • Sports arenas – inside and outside
  • Event facilities - trade shows, concerts, amphitheaters
  • Business - conference rooms, exterior building displays
  • Museums – information displays
  • Outdoor advertising - digital billboards
  • Luxury apartment buildings - outdoor displays around the pool, community centers
  • Churches – visual communication for congregants
  • Amusement park – video walls sharing information and messages

Selecting LED Display Panel Features to Fit Your Needs

There is a difference between indoor and outdoor LED panels. Outdoor panels have a brighter display to compensate for the sun, including ambient light at sunset. Outdoor LED screen panels are also usually larger than indoor ones. They are designed to dissipate heat and are waterproof. Outdoor LED displays have a higher Ingress Protection (IP) rate and are built to withstand adverse weather events in any climate.

Following are some factors that guide the selection of LED screen panels.

Type of LED display

Today, many options exist for the types of LED screen displays. They include the flat LED display, curved LED display, wraparound LED display for an arrangement around a curved surface, spliced modular LED panels, LED video wall and more.

Screen size

The screen size depends on several factors, one of which is the area available where the LED display panels are to fit. Various factors are considered to determine the ideal size of the commercial LED display panels you want installed.

First, you determine the optimal size of the display panels, accommodating the width and height of the area where the display will be installed. This is crucial as it directly impacts the viewing experience. Then, consider the viewing distance and angle, which are related to pixel pitch.

Pixel pitch is the distance between LED lamp bead cores. The closer the pixels are together, the higher the resolution. The greater the viewing distance, the larger the pixel pitch needed. The more pixels in a panel, the larger the panel, meaning you choose the ideal panel size based on the required resolution.

Divide the desired display width and height by the LED panel dimensions to determine the number of panels needed. The LED screen size and the pixel pitch are also used to determine the number of LED display modules needed.

Brightness

Outdoor LED screen panels have a high contrast ratio and brighter display to compensate for the sun, including ambient light at sunset. Luminous intensity is measured in nits. One nit equals one candela per square meter. The higher the nit value, the brighter the display. Brightness can range from low to very high to accommodate the display’s location, considering the lighting and the amount of sun reaching the display. Outdoor display panels must accommodate sunny to cloudy days and open air to covered locations.

Viewing distance and angle

If you have ever watched an LED TV at a side angle because the room or screen was not big enough to accommodate all the viewers, you know it can look washed out. The viewing angle refers to the various positions from which a viewer can still see what is on the screen. The larger the screen, the wider the viewing angle.

Panel content

The aspect ratio is the screen's width-to-height ratio. It directly influences the content that will be shown on the screen. The display's images can be distorted if the LED screen panel does not have the correct aspect ratio and size.

Environment

If the panel will be installed outside, the design should accommodate all kinds of weather, including heat and humidity, rain and storms. Heat dissipation is an essential characteristic of a reliable and stable display panel. However, an indoor environment may present challenges, too. For example, modular panels installed in entrance hallways need very low heat emissions.

Power of LED Screen Panels to Attract Attention

LED panels have many uses, such as attracting tourists or customers, upscaling a brand image, showcasing music or other artists, advertising and entertainment. The flexibility available in this technology creates a unique and creative display that appeals to every generation.

And because they come in different designs, you can always find something to suit your budget. Some come with advanced rover designs for unrivaled viewing angles.
